Facelifted Kia K7 / Cadenza Teased In Korea Ahead Of Imminent Launch

Kia is getting ready to present the facelifted version of the second-gen Cadenza. The car will be first shown in South Korea, where it’s sold as the K7.

Announcing its imminent launch are a series of teaser images and a video released on social media. These preview the exterior design, which has become sleeker thanks to the redesigned headlights that flow into the grille.

The lower part of the front bumper has been updated too, whereas the rear light signature has been modernized, with a light strip connecting the new clusters and the Kia logo positioned on the upper part of the boot lid. Given the comprehensive makeover for what is after all a mid-cycle refresh, we wouldn’t be surprised if they have added more colors to the palette and new wheel designs.

The interior will feature even more mods, with a redesigned dashboard panel and center console. There’s a bigger infotainment screen above the new air vents and the climate controls have been updated. The gearshift lever and surrounding area have been reworked as well, whereas the steering wheel appears to have been carried over.

We don’t know yet if the 2020 K7/Cadenza brings any changes under the hood, but we will find out soon enough, given the short caption accompanying the teasers that says ‘coming soon.

Expect almost identical changes for the North American version of the car, which will probably be introduced before the end of the year. The outgoing Cadenza has a $33,100 MSRP and comes in three trim levels, powered by a 290 HP, 3.3-liter petrol V6.

    I want to wait for the official release to see it, but from those sketches it seems that the Avalon could still be a nicer alternative.

      The Avalon has a gawdawful front-end, looks like a whale shark. And it has no elegance at all. Kia’s current design language is among the best in the business. But of course, you know what they say about opinions…

        I agree with you 100% on the styling side. But honestly I was referring to the interior really. I wish I was more clear in my first comment.

          The Avalon does have some interesting interior elements but to me, its center stack is very inelegant. I think the Cadenza, based on these renders, will have a more luxurious air to it. It’ll definitely be more subdued; Toyota (and by extent, Lexus) seem to be going more for shock value these days.

        I know! its the worst! I was in a new E Class last week and it was PLAGUED with piano black plastic… but as for this kia, I was talking more about design and proportion than materials

    This thing must sell well in Korea, but it sure doesn’t here. They should have kept its platform-mate, the Hyundai Azera, which sold 10 times as many. Hyundai canned it because of Genesis. But buyers moved to other brands.

      Kia kept the Cadenza b/c they didn’t have a “bridge” to the K900, whereas Genesis had the G80 down the ladder from the G90.

      Now w/ the Stinger, maybe the don’t need the Cadenza, but any they sell here is gravy.

    Why would any self respecting person buy one of these pseudo luxury models. Actually, few do buy them.

      No more “psuedo” than Lexus, Infiniti or Acura.

      And in fact, the Toyota Crown series vastly outsells the LS/GS combined worldwide.

      Guess many people prefer “pseudo”-luxury and actually care more about the merits of a vehicle than the badge.

    I think Kia should stop making a luxury car or sell them at a cheaper price, it’s not money making proposition and they cant compete with the German brands anyhow for the time being. They should instead concentrate on hybrid and SUV types of cars but with better materials.

      The K900 is mostly for the Korean market where it sells about 1k a month, which is more than what the LS 500 sells in the NA/Europe/Japan combined.

      The Stinger does well enough, outselling the IS in a # of markets (Germany, Australia, etc.).

      Also, this doesn’t really compete with the German brands. This car competes with full-size FWD cars Avalon, Impala, Buick, Maxima, ES, etc.
