Those looking to get a spacious car these days more often than not of put a number of crossovers and SUVs on their list. However, there are other vehicles that would do the job even better – and we’re not even talking about the large estates, but something that’s fallen out of favor with most consumers: MPVs.
Peugeot has a new one out, and it’s called the Rifter. It’s basically the same vehicle as the Citroen Berlingo and Opel/Vauxhall Combo, with a few visual and technical changes.

Like its siblings, the Rifter has an extremely spacious interior, with great boot space and three individual seats at the back. It can also be had with a couple of extra seats, which further boost its practicality. Storage spaces are simply superior to pretty much all other vehicles out there, and you don’t have to compromise on modern features, either, as you’ll still enjoy an infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and several safety system like the standard Lane Keep Assist, Emergency Braking and Speed Limiter.
Powering the Rifter is a 1.2-liter petrol four with 110 PS (108 hp / 81 kW), or a 1.5-liter diesel rated at 130 PS (128 hp / 95 kW). The first one is coupled with a six-speed manual, whereas the latter gets an eight-speed auto as an option as well.
For a vehicle so practical (albeit far from sexy), the Rifter won’t ruin your finances. It starts from just under €24,000 ($27,280) in Ireland, where the following review took place. The test car came in GT Line trim, powered by the oil burner, and quickly grew on the reviewer who, at one point, called it one of the best cars launched recently.
