2JZ-Powered Toyota Supra Drifter Heading To Goodwood

An A90 Supra drift car is heading to the Goodwood Festival of Speed – but, unlike the street car, it is not powered by a BMW-sourced six-cylinder.

This example is the work of tuning specialists HKS and Toyota itself, with the two working together to create a new Supra with the 2JZ-GTE engine of the previous-gen model.

While the new engine powering the road-going Supra is quite potent, companies still have very little experience tuning it. By comparison, the 2JZ is one of the most revered engines in the aftermarket world and can be easily upgraded without having its reliability compromised. This particular unit has been fitted with a huge HKS turbocharger and other parts to pump out 690 hp and 620 lb-ft (884 Nm) of torque, all of which is sent to the rear wheels.

This Supra also features a number of other alterations to make it perfect for drifting. There is a bespoke suspension setup, for example, as well as a set of new Advan wheels and tires, a large rear wing and a set of flared wheel arches. To get the tail out, it also receives a hydraulic handbrake and is bound to turn heads at Goodwood.

The first A90 Supra drift car was created in Japan earlier this year by professional drift Daigo Saito and, unsuprisingly, was also powered by a single-turbo 2JZ six.
