Aston Martin Reveals Final Design Of The New DBS GT Zagato

Aston Martin has revealed the exterior design of the upcoming DBS GT Zagato in a series of official renders.

Based on the DBS Superleggera, the company’s latest limited-edition supercar showcases the latest evolution in the Aston Martin Zagato design language.

How limited you ask? Well, in order to get your hands on one of the DBS GT Zagatos, you’ll have to also get a DB4 GT Zagato Continuation. The £6 million ($7.48 million) pair forms what Aston calls the DBZ Centenary Collection, with only 19 examples of each set to be made.

One of the biggest visual highlights of the new Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato can be found in its traditionally massive grille; this is actually an active item, meaning that each of the 108-individual diamond-shaped carbon fibre pieces remain flush with the bodywork when the supercar is parked and then open upon start-up to enable the twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 to breathe.

“This is a car that is not only focused around beauty, but drama too,” said Marek Reichman, Chief Creative Officer, Aston Martin Lagonda. “Our dynamic grille gives us an opportunity to provide the car with two very different identities. When parked, DBS GT Zagato will almost look like it’s resting, but with the rear of the car still appearing muscular and primed for action. Only on start-up will the car truly become alert and ready to perform, delivering both an aural and visual treat for onlookers”.

In addition, the full length carbon-fiber roof will make it into production, giving the DBS GT Zagato an even more muscular appearance. This large piece of carbon fiber also means that there’s also no rear window, but Aston Martin solved the issue with a camera-operated central mirror.

“Form and function are constantly in battle with one another, but this is a great example of where we have been able to utilize modern technologies to ensure no concession has been made on either side,” added Reichman.

Production of the new Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato will start in 2020, with the first deliveries scheduled for the fourth quarter of the same year.

Wrong wheels design, and wrong wheel color.

    • Ben

However, those colors, especially the combination will be favored in China.

      • Bash

Why is that? Does it have to do with their traditional themes and color?

        • Ben

Red is a color associated with good fortune. Gold is…well, gold and usually paired with red during celebrations. Much like western holidays such as Christmas have an associated color patterns. However, red is more than festive in China. In fact, there was a story of a wealthy Chinese businessman that bought a “red” Tibetan Mastiff (dog). He paid nearly $900k for it.

Anecdotally, a friend of mine is an interior decorator in New York. A Chinese college student was attending school there and his parents leased/bought a $6m penthouse for him. The first request was to make his room walls red with a material I couldn’t pronounce. When she asked why, they told her it was good fortune and he needs it because apparently he didn’t study hard. Embossed on the walls and throughout the house was the family’s lucky number.

During the Chinese new year, red envelopes are given. They’re typically embroidered with golden leaf. Money is usually inside. Again, its part of a festive tradition, but extends beyond just that for mainland Chinese citizens.

right now somewhere in China, someone is probably saying that Ferraris are red because Santa Claus, the westerners legendary figure, wears a red outfit

          • Ben

Which would be factually incorrect, but I’m sure.

        • Short answer yes 😊

          • Bash

            I figured. Thanks man.

          • Ben

Hehehe, coffee makes the fingers restless.

  • Honda NSX-R

I like the regular DBS Superleggera better

  • Bart

Who knew Kia Stinger design would be so influential 😉

    • I know you’re making a joke but I don’t see it, the joke or what made you make it.

  • Finkployd

it looks so long compared to the original :/

  • Porkopolis

Zagato turns cars into caricatures of their former selves. Just because it’s designed by Italians doesn’t mean it’s beautiful.

    • That’s the problem with using the same recipe every time… Sometimes it works sometimes it’s joke… Sometimes good food doesn’t need anything on top of it.

    • Cool guy

The Vanquish itself, was much more attractive

    • SteersUright

Wow, much better proportions no doubt!!

    • I agree, the V12 Vantage Zagato too.

At first, I was just about to write that its rather nice, if a bit Supra-ish. Then you had to go and put it next to the infinitely more beautiful classic Aston and it just fell apart for me.

  • Ruel Lewis

So is the grill opened or closed in the pics??. Either way no a fan of the design. Aston has lost some of their mojo.

    • It’s not designed by Aston… You still have the Regular DBS, DB11s, Vantage if you like them.

      • Ruel Lewis

I still stand by my comment. I know zagato and Aston can do much better.

        • Aston and Zagato: “yes we can!”

  • I prefer the Vanquish Zagato, or the DB7 AR1 Zagato, or the Gorgeous V12 Zagato… But maybe it’s also a problem with the color and those wheels too much of a Football (real football) player Ferrari’s. Screams too much “look at me!” for my taste.

  • Nordschleife

I don’t know if it’s the color or something else but the translation from the sketch to this more realistic render leaves something to be desired. I guess the sketch gave me visions of the Maybach 6 coupè as the ultimate boulevard GT cruiser. This looks good but not what I envisioned. But maybe it’s just the red throwing me off.

    • donald seymour

      My thoughts exactly.

  • Big Black Duck

Red and Gold works in this car….jaw dropping beauty…as far as I am concerned

  • Tumbi Mtika

The gold is really throwing me of here, and so is that red. Both look terrible on this.
