Get Up Close And Personal With The Stunning BMW 840i Gran Coupe

If the first official photos of the new BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe didn’t convince you of the car’s stunning looks, this clip probably will.

Carscoops reader PC Rogs tipped us off to this YouTube video, which provides us with a close look at the 8-Series Gran Coupe in 840i guise at the BMW Welt facility in Munich, Germany.

Starting with the exterio, it is hard to deny that it is striking. This particular example is painted white and sports gloss black wheels as well as a number of carbon fiber accents. Among our favorite details are the blue brake calipers and the large hump at the rear of the decklid.

Inside, the 8-Series Gran Coupe is perhaps even more glamorous than its exterior would suggest. The rear features two spacious seats (technically, there’s a middle seat too, although it’s not very useful) as well as a large center console where rear passengers can control things such as the climate control. Those at the rear also have a large sunroof to enjoy.

Move to the front part of the cabin and you’ll find a beautiful mixture of black leather, blue accent lighting, and aluminum accents. It looks like a lovely place to sit and we’re sure will tempt some buyers previously looking at picking up a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or Audi A8.

The BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe can be purchased with a number of different engines, including a range-topping 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 pumping out an impressive 523 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. An M8 Gran Coupe is also on the horizon, though for most, even the “humble” 840i should be more than enough.

Not crazy about the blackout package. Or the white paint. Maybe in a nice deep green with some chrome…

  • Danny Boy

I don’t know man….there’s just something lacking from BMW design language. I mean, this is nice and all, but……it just doesn’t get me all hot and bothered as it should for a car that Im sure will be close to 150k.
The last gen 6 series GC is more attractive than this car. BMW should’ve followed the Z4 concept language. That headlight design alone on a sedan would’ve been tha lick!!!! Really all of that concepts designs could’ve been applied. By watering the concept down for production, we ended up with this weird, and not in a good way, Z4 that looks no better than the last gen, arguably worse!
As a previous owner, I’m really pulling for BMW to come back, and they just aren’t there.
    COME ON BEEMER………

    • Sovereignty

BMWs are not meant to appeal to customers of old, they’re targeting the Middle East and China.

      • Danny Boy

        Hmmmm
Well goal achieved, I’ve moved to Genesis!

    • TheBelltower

Looks like a solid design to me. There are a lot of concept elements that would have made it better… for instance, better looking door handles would have helped clean up the side profile. I hate door handles that are horsey-looking pulls placed over a big dent. But it’s a still good looking car nonetheless. This should be price in-line with the A7/S7/RS7. Much more than that, it’ll be a tough sell.

      • Danny Boy

        Lol agreed!
Yes solid, just nothing that will make you wanna slap yo momma, ya know…..

        • donald seymour

You are absolutely right about that slap yo momma part. It just doesn’t have that ultimate wow factor. I feel like taking the concept front fascia and placing it on the production version. Now, the concept was WOW! This is just nice. It’s not bad by any means it just nice, “middleliss” of the road kinda of thing.

          • Danny Boy

Donmour, riiiiight…….! I’m digging what you’re selling bro! Ha

      • europeon

*Solid* design is something you’d use to describe a 5- or 7-series, not something that’s supposed to be a bit more special.

        • TheBelltower

That’s how I intended it. It’s a good looking car. But it’s not going to set the world on fire.

      • Danny Boy

        Yup….you’re right on it bruh!

  • Meskley

Im okay with the exterior but inside is really underwhelming, really does not live up to the price tag

    • Scino Iem

I think because it’s too much black inside. Red color or tan combined with contrast colors will bring out the character more.

    • ErnieB

Reminds me of a Ford fusion’s interior.

      • Danny Boy

Lol saaaay, that’s harsh! Lol wow…

    • SteersUright

Yup, same as in the 8-series coupe. It’s really not very good for cars at these prices.

  • El RRRaton

I can’t wait to own one, one BMWs best design in my honest opinion. But I’ll wait to see what the Alpina B8 is looking like before getting an order in. Hopefully I can get that Forest Green with full Brown interior.

    • Danny Boy

I applaud you for not giving a damn about what others think!
But are you sure you don’t want to consider the RS7?

      • El RRRaton

I did have a 2015 RS7 before I traded it for the lovely 18 Panamera Turbo. I won’t be missing out on the new RS7 though.

  • SteersUright

Im not seeing it. Maybe it’ll look much better in person like the first 6-series Gran Coupe (sedan) did.

  • Bo Hanan

I really like the profile- but not the lower front and rear clips. All those layers on the rear are horrible.
