Lewis Hamilton has been at the pinnacle of Formula 1 for over a decade and as the video below shows, he still absolutely loves racing, even if that means driving a vehicle significantly slower than his F1 car.

In the lead-up to the Mercedes team’s home race at the Hockenheimring, Lewis Hamilton and team boss Toto Wolff hit Silverstone in a pair of Mercedes-Benz 190E DTM race cars to see who had the upper hand around the famous British circuit.

The clip, complete with 8-bit style graphics, includes heaps of epic onboard footage as the duo went toe-to-toe. While Hamilton is a five-time Formula 1 World Champion, Wolff does have quite a lot of racing experience himself having competed in series’ such as the Austrian Formula Ford Championship and the Italian GT Championship.

The duo were surprisingly well-matched throughout the race but Wolff’s car did appear to have a significant straight-line advantage ensuring he crossed the finish line first.

As impressive as Hamilton’s and Wolff’s driving was, the two Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution IIs were the real highlight.

The Evo II was launched back in 1990 and was powered by a high-revving naturally-aspirated four-cylinder pumping up upwards of 360 HP mated to a manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. and while it certainly is a lot slower than Hamilton’s Formula 1 car, it still appears to be exceptionally good fun to drive and, when pushed, will happily drift through corners.
