At the 1989 Chicago Auto Show, the first MX-5 was presented to the world. Thirty years and more than 1 million examples later, Mazda unveiled the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition at the same event – and it is now up for grabs in the United Kingdom.

Out of the 3,000 units that will be available globally, only 550 are destined for Britain, including 370 Convertibles and 180 RFs. Pricing starts from £28,095 ($35,234/€31,271) and £29,895 ($37,491/€33,274), respectively.

The limited edition roadster is offered exclusively in Racing Orange. It also gets orange calipers, forged aluminum wheels developed especially for it with Rays Co Ltd., a 30th anniversary badge that also displays each car’s serial number and, for the first time in the UK market, Brembo brakes. Moreover the RF is marked out by its black roof.

Orange accents are found inside on the seats, dashboard, air vents, steering wheel and gearshift lever. The cabin also features Recaro seats and Alcantara trim on the doors and instrument panel, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

“With its unique detailing, generous equipment levels, exclusivity and bold Racing Orange paint, the 30th Anniversary Edition is the perfect way to celebrate three decades of this iconic sports car”, said Jeremy Thomson, Mazda’s UK Managing Director.

Powering the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition is the 2.0-liter SkyActiv-G petrol four, which produces 184 PS (181 hp / 135 kW) and is mated to a six-speed manual and a limited-slip differential, while the chassis gets Bilstein dampers and a strut brace.
