McLaren is looking to return to their winning ways in Formula 1 and consistency and continuity are viewed as key factors. With that in mind, Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris have both been retained for the upcoming 2020 season.

Sainz joined McLaren at the end of last year from Renault on what was said to be a multi-year agreement. Norris meanwhile graduated to the “big league” after finishing as runner-up in Formula 2 in 2018.

“Today’s announcement provides the team with the continuity to keep pushing forward. The performance of both Carlos and Lando have been a key part of the team’s progress,” said team principal Andreas Seidl. “Their feedback has enabled our engineers to develop the MCL34 and look ahead to the MCL35. Carlos has played a key role in developing the car using his experience, while Lando has got up to speed with the demands of Formula 1 incredibly quickly and is growing in confidence every weekend. This is welcome news for the whole McLaren team and we look forward to continuing our partnership together.”

Sainz is already on track to have a much better season than he did last year when he finished 8th in the standings with a total of 53 points while racing for Renault.
