Pricing for the 2020 Camry TRD has been confirmed by Toyota and, much to the surprise of many, the performance-focused sedan doesn’t break the bank.

At $31,995, it is the cheapest V6-powered model in the Camry family, undercutting the XSE by $4,000. The TRD’s starting price is also well down on the $43,255 commanded by the Avalon TRD that’s powered by the exact same engine.

The main reason why the Camry TRD is so affordable is that it is based on the SE trim, meaning it doesn’t include a leather interior, satellite navigation or the various driver-assist systems offered on more upmarket grades. As the name of the car implies, it really is about performance over everything else.

The chassis features stiffer springs and a lowered ride height, enlarged anti-roll bars, extra bracing, bespoke wheels with sticky rubber, as well as front brake discs enlarged by 0.9-inch and new dual-piston calipers. There is also a TRD-specific exhaust system, a sportier exterior an some red interior accents.

Power comes from a 3.5-liter naturally-aspirated V6 with 301 HP. All in all, the sporty Camry seems like quite the bargain, particularly compared to the Avalon TRD.
