Icon Wants $265,000 For This One-Off 1970 Chevrolet K5 Blazer Restomod

Chevrolet K5 Blazer restomods have become a thing in recent years with the success of similar Ford Bronco projects.

It’s not unusual to see K5 Blazer builds exceed $200,000 at auctions or private sales and this 1970 example makes no exception.

Built in 2015 by California-based Icon under its Reformer brand, this particular vehicle is a unique custom K5 Blazer that has only covered 1,200 miles (1,931 kilometers) since completion. According to Icon, the reason for that is the owner was afraid to drive it because it was “too perfect.”

The list of custom modifications made to this off-roader is too long to cover in detail so we’ll focus on the highlights. It’s got a Corvette heart, more specifically a 6.2-liter LS3 aluminum V8 engine rated at 430 hp and 424 lb-ft (575 Nm) of torque. Mated to the strong four-speed 4L85E automatic transmission, the power plant drives all four wheels via an Atlas II part-time 4×4 transfer case.

The vehicle’s off-road capability is enhanced by the custom suspension with Atlas leaf springs, Currie sway bars, and Fox Racing shocks and rebounds, as well as the American Racing black Teflon ATX 17-inch wheels shod with BF Goodrich 315/70/17 All Terrain tires. The off-roader also features custom built Dynatrack Dana 60 axles, four-wheel-disc-brakes, and hydroboost assist power steering.

Leaving the hardware part behind, the unique Chevrolet K5 Blazer features an overhauled interior with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and armrests, custom seats upholstered in Italian leather, LED lighting, restored stock in-dash radio, wool floor mats, and much more.

The vehicle can be yours for $265,000 and Icon says that’s a good deal because the custom K5 cannot be duplicated at this price and the company will not build another one like it anyway.

Looks more like $65k than $265k. I doubt it will sell.

        Yup!

Let them keep it for that price, rather have a Rivian or RR HSE.

It’s only a good deal for the person who wants to justify buying it.

I’ll take a 570s for that kind of money. Might even have some $$ leftover for options.

WOW! I’m sure this is an awesome restomod but is it worth over a quarter million? uuhhh…. no. At least I don’t think so. There’s a lot of other vehicles I’d rather have for similar or less money. “Restored stock in dash radio”… really??? You couldn’t put something nicer in there for the money they’re asking? I think I’d rather find something similar for around $60k on Hemmings instead of this.

    • I’M WONDERING WHAT THE BLANK PLATE ABOVE THE RADIO IS FOR.

      • john1168

Sorry, do you mean below the radio? Above is a vent and I did notice an a/c compressor in the engine bay so I’m guessing it has a/c even though the hvac control sliders don’t hint at much. My guess for the panel below the radio is an ash tray but I could be wrong. Originally I thought the radio was one of those types that look original but then have the entire face fold down only to reveal a modern stereo system but this doesn’t look like the case. However, it does have a decent sized subwoofer in the back ssoooo….. maybe a modern stereo system is hiding somewhere?

        • YEAH YOUR RIGHT, BELOW THE RADIO. I GUESS IT IS THE ASH TRAY EVEN THOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE THE PLATE YOU SEE IN A RADIO DELETE TRUCK.

  • LOVE HIS WORK, CAN’T STAND TO LISTEN TO HIM TALK. “GEEK OUT”.
IN THE MEANTIME CHEVY RELEASES THE UPDATED VERSION THAT ONLY TAKES THE NAME AND NOT THE SPIRIT OF THE TRUCK.

FORD IS DRAGGING IT’S FEET WITH THE BRONCO WHILE OTHER AFTERMARKET BUILDERS ARE SELLING RESTOMODS FOR A FORTUNE.

It’s very nice. But it’s no where near $265,000 nice.

      Exactly my thought

  • MarketAndChurch

Absolutely gorgeous, especially for the amount of work they go through to put together one of these projects.
