With Porsche’s Boxster and Cayman models becoming better and better with each generation and Alpine reentering the game with the new A110, it’s quite easy to overlook the Alfa Romeo 4C these days.
The little Italian sports car is still alive, though, and quite capable of throwing a punch at its direct rivals. Aficionados all over the world still see it as a dream ride, and who are we to say otherwise? After all, it looks good, has a carbon fiber tub, mid-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive.
The 1.75-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder puts down 237 HP (240 PS) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque between 2,200 and 4,250 rpm. Tipping the scales at just a little over a ton (2,205 lbs) dry, the 4C can accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds and up to 258 km/h (160 mph), regardless if it’s the Coupe or the Spider version.

As for the example driven by CarSales, it’s a 2019 4C Spider, which starts at AUD $99,000 (USD $67,061) in Australia, where the review took place. The price was bumped by an additional AUD $12,000 (USD $8,129) with the optional Racing Package, which adds a firmer suspension, louder exhaust and different alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero rubber.
Before moving on to the clip, we’ll list some of the reviewer’s likings, which are quite a lot and mostly driving-related, namely the precise steering, meaty and noisy engine and grippy tires.
Not everything is perfect, though, so if the 4C Spider is on your to-get list, then you should know that the storage space is very minimal and the media system is antiquated. You also won’t speak that much to whoever is riding shotgun due to the sound produced by the engine and you will bounce around, as the suspension is very firm.
