MG’s Affordable ZS EV SUV Secures 1,000 Orders In Just 2 Weeks In The UK

MG has managed to secure 1,000 orders for the fully electric ZS SUV in the UK over two weeks, thanks to its attractive launch price offer of just £21,495 ($26,250 at current exchange rates).

The company’s offer was to match the UK government’s £3,500 plug-in car grant with a £3,500 grant of their own, as well as add a complimentary home charging unit for free for the first 1,000 customers of the ZS EV.

MG now says that the £21,495 launch price offer will continue for the next 1,000 buyers, but will not include the free home charger.

The ZS EV is powered by an electric motor with 141 HP (143 PS) and 260 lb-ft (353 Nm) of torque mounted on the front. A water-cooled 44.5kWh battery pack renders the electric crossover capable of traveling up to 163 miles (242 km/h) on a single charge per the WLTP standards. In addition, it is compatible with rapid chargers, which means it car charge its battery from zero to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.

Standard equipment is generous and includes 17-inch alloy wheels, an eight-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth and DAB radio, as well as the MG Pilot driver assistance suite that includes Advanced Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control.

“By extending our offer to match the government grant for the next 1,000 retail customers, we’re delighted to be able to maintain this offer, even if it’s just for a few more days,” said Daniel Gregorious, Head of Sales & Marketing at MG Motor UK. “To anyone who’s been thinking about ordering a ZS EV, I suggest they do it now!”

UK customers can reserve the battery-electric MG ZS online by placing a fully refundable £500 deposit.

Do those 1,000 customers know where this MG will be built? I’ll give them a hint. It ain’t getting built in the UK let alone Europe.

You could apply the same dog-whistling “IT’S NOT BUILT HERE!” argument to every Vauxhall other than the Astra, and unlike Vauxhall, MG has the decency to refrain from cloaking their range in the colours of the Union Jack to deceive buyers. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/38a5d42948140a8158614880991cb1c0774c6c2a9e63c5034337bcfdf8ce0b1d.jpg

Or the many “American” cars we have here built in Mexico.

Seriously, do you think your new BMW is built in Germany, do you think your nice new Volvo is built in Sweden. Same for a lot of Mercedes, Volkswagen Audi etc etc. Do you get my point?

      • 85ZingoGTR

No. Only the very high end models are. The rest are a mix of US and Mexico. The same goes for the other two German brands. But being built in China comes with a stigmatism. Look at the Buick Envision. Built in China, but selling poorly in the states. The SUV has nothing out of the ordinary that would put it at a disadvantage. Its roughly the size of an MKC, has a similar powertrain, similar price but has more features. That being said, I can’t think of any other reason for it to sell so poorly other than the Made in China stigma. Meanwhile Buicks other two SUVs have no problem selling. And its interesting because I feel that Chinese cars will be the next Japanese and Korean cars.

MG is supposed to be British built and owned, none of this Chinese non-sense.
