Volkswagen ID. Buggy Concept Will Feel Right At Home At Pebble Beach

The funky Volkswagen ID. Buggy Concept will be put on display at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance during the ongoing Monterey Car Week.

First unveiled last March at the Geneva Motor Show as the latest member in the growing family of ID-badged models that also includes the ID.3 hatchback and ID. Crozz, ID. Buzz, ID. Roomzz and ID. Vizzion concepts. However, while all of these models are expected to spawn production versions, the ID. Buggy Concept probably won’t.

Sitting beneath the adventurous bodyworkis a 62 kWh battery pack mated to a single electric motor that pumps out 201 HP and 228 lb-ft (309 Nm) of torque. Volkswagen says the concept reaches 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.2 seconds and can hit an electronically limited top speed of 99 mph (159 km/h), while offering a range of 155 miles (250 km) on the WLTP cycle.

It’s not just the lack of doors that make the ID. Buggy unique. In addition, it features 18-inch wheels with BFGoodrich All-Terrain off-road tires measuring 255/55 at the front and 285/60 at the rear, solid aluminum underbody protection that ensures the front axle and ancillaries are protected when the vehicle is taken off-road, as well as towing hooks both front and rear.

Volkswagen has also designed the interior to deal with all types of conditions and, therefore, have clad it in waterproof materials including water-repellent Nappa leather on the steering wheel.

So, if it were to ever to be given the green light for production, there’s no place it would look more at home than on the Californian coastline.

Finally a good looking VW! 😌

Finally, another car they will never build. Such a huge waste of time and this has been around for years.

      • Aeromann

        Yes, that’s unfortunately true. 😑

It looks just so friendly 🙂

  • just give it doors and a folding roof and it could do ok. i mean polaris is out there selling tens of thousands of RZRs which are basically the same idea as these old beach buggies.

They are clueless as to how to market anything and if it doesn’t have annual sale in excess of 250,000 units it will never meet the needs of the company accountants.

  • Six_Tymes

Sue them, they (VW) are implying they designed and made the original buggy, VW did not. Still looks good though.

  • Smith

So what, VW will never build this so, it is too cool for them. It is just a exercise in futility and a total waste of time and money. Well done VW, again …
