2019 Frankfurt Motor Show Guide: A-to-Z Debuts (Day 3)

The Frankfurt International Motor Show, also known in Germany as the Internationale Automobil Ausstellung (or IAA for short), is here. Alternating with Paris every year (see our 2018 coverage here), it’s one of the world’s largest auto shows and one of the most important events in the motoring calendar.

Flashback: Frankfurt Motor Show 2017 A-to-Z Debut Guide

On this page we’ll be covering all the world debuts, launches and reports coming out of the show’s floors, continuously updating the A-Z list of cars and breaking news below, so don’t forget to check back.

The highlights

There’s plenty of lustrous new metal landing in Frankfurt, from highly-anticipated production cars like the Porsche Taycan electric sports sedan, the next Land Rover Defender, the Honda E and Lamborghini’s latest supercar, to fascinating concepts such as Hyundai’s retro-modern 45 EV, BMW’s Vision M Next and Mercedes’ EQS electric sports sedan.

The absentees

Many brands these days pick and choose which international shows they’ll attend, and the IAA in Frankfurt is no exception. At least 23 major brands have opted to skip this year’s event, including Alpine, Aston Martin, Citroen, Dacia, DS, Ferrari, FCA’s Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Chrysler, and Jeep brands, GM’s Chevy and Cadillac, Infiniti, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Rolls Royce, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota and Volvo.

Opening Dates

This year, the international press days take place on Tuesday, September 10, and Wednesday, September 11, 2019, with the doors at the Frankfurt Messe opening to the public from Saturday, September 14, through Sunday, September 22, 2019. Quite a show it will be … especially for VW group.

    Golf 8 again?

  • Jason Panamera

    Meh, nothing new.

  • NoMan2015

The story you link to for the Golf says the following: “Volkswagen was originally expected to unveil the Mk8 Golf at September’s Frankfurt Auto Show, but that launch has allegedly been pushed back until October.” But now you have it on the list for Frankfurt…which is it??

    • JohnCarscoop

Yes, key word here is “allegedly”. We have it as (NC) aka ‘Not Confirmed’. We did hear (and report) that its launch was moved to October in order for VW to focus on the ID.3 in Frankfurt. We’ve asked VW and will update the list once we hear back from them.

      • NoMan2015

Fair enough…that (NC) was just added. It wasn’t there when I initially made the comment.

        • JohnCarscoop

We just heard back from VW, it def won’t be in Frankfurt.

I see why many backed off from this show. What could possibly top the absurdity of that Vantablack keller, or that 900 hp (671 kw) V12 G-Wagen?!

    • Caleb Carter

i mean if ferrari created a new one off supercar]

  • Six_Tymes
