Toyota Updates 2020 Prius With More Safety Kit And Apple CarPlay As Standard

Toyota is updating the Prius for the 2020 model year with a revised grade structure and the inclusion of a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa, as well as Toyota Safety Connect as standard. Sadly, there’s no Android Auto compatibility.

The 2020 Prius will continue to be offered in L Eco, LE, XLE and Limited grades for the front-wheel drive models, while the AWD-e variant will be available in the LE and XLE.

The Toyota Safety Connect suite, which includes features such as Emergency Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Locator, Roadside Assistance and Automatic Collision Notification, is now standard and comes with a free subscription for three years.

Moreover, the 7-inch infotainment system sports a six-speaker audio system, three USB ports and one auxiliary audio jack, advanced voice recognition, Bluetooth, phone book access and music streaming, Siri Eyes Free and a backup camera.

The most fuel efficient member of the Prius range is the L Eco, which returns 58 mpg city / 53 mpg highway / 56 mpg combined, as rated by the EPA. The hybrid powertrain, which combines a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with two motor-generators and battery pack, remains unchanged.

The LE trim’s equipment list includes a Smart Key, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Intelligent Parking Assist. Upgrade to the XLE and you’ll get 17-inch alloys (15-inch ones on the XLE AWD-e), SofTex-trimmed seats including 8-way power and heated front seats and wireless phone charging.

The top-of-the-line Limited adds a bigger 11.6-inch infotainment screen with navigation and a premium JBL audio system, Adaptive Front Lighting System with auto-leveling headlamps and more.

The Toyota Safety Sense bundle of driver assistance systems is still a standard fit across the range, and features a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beams and Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
