Cadillac XT4 Headed To Europe Next Year With Diesel Power, Optional AWD

It’s been awhile since we heard about the Euro-spec XT4, but Cadillac has finally confirmed it will launch there in 2020.

The crossover is largely identical to the American variant, but features an all-new turbocharged 2.0-liter diesel engine that was designed exclusively for European markets and produces 168 HP (125 kW / 170 PS) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque.

The engine will be paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission and the XT4 will also be available with AWD as an option. Cadillac didn’t mention additional performance specs, but it appears the diesel engine will be the only option in Europe. If that’s the case, they’ll miss out the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol that develops 237 HP (177 kW / 240 PS) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque.

Two different versions will be offered in Europe including an entry-level XT4 Launch Edition which is available exclusively with front-wheel drive. It will come nicely equipped with satin aluminum exterior accents, a hand-free power liftgate and 18-inch alloys. Other highlights include heated seats, a heated steering wheel and an infotainment system with GPS navigation.

Standard safety features include a surround-vision camera, a safety alert seat, parking assist, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and traffic sign recognition technology.

The XT4 Launch Edition Sport has a more distinctive appearance, with a different grille, gloss black accents, clear taillights and 20-inch rims, as well as a sport steering wheel and aluminum pedals inside. The range-topping variant also comes equipped with a color head-up display and adaptive cruise control with a Stop & Go function. Lastly, there’s an active sport suspension with continuous damping control.

Buyers looking for something more luxurious can order the Premium Package, which adds a panoramic glass roof, perforated leather upholstery and special front seats with ventilation and massage functions.

In Germany, it’s priced from €42,900 for the Launch Edition and €49,200 for the Launch Edition Sport. By comparison, the Mercedes GLC 200d 4MATIC starts at €47,724.

In Europe the Cadillac brand is associated with large and luxurious vehicles, and the XT4 is not.
It has no possibility to gain market share in Europe with the amount of other options available in this range.

Europeans aren’t going to buy this junk, why even bother?

  • optional nothing, AWD should be standard on Cadillac CUVs…

They should focus on bringing back Chevrolet to EUrope. Not Cadillac.

Cadillac ain’t gonna happen in Europe.

  • They have no dealers and in Europe Cadillac is now mostly unknown or seen as cheap bad american cars. They are too expensive. How are they going to sell those???? A second hand one can be cool to drive different, but who will really buy this??? Not sure American ambassies will be enough.

Diesel has been falling out of favor in Europe (and elsewhere), so Cadillac better have a petrol hybrid in the works.
