2020 Aston Martin Vantage Roadster Shown In First Official Images

Aston Martin has dropped the first official images of the new Vantage Roadster, depicting the open-top version of its V8 sports car in pre-production form.

As we can see from the images, turning the Aston Martin Vantage into a roadster has changed the roof line and the rear deck significantly to host the new foldable fabric soft top.

Design features such as the characteristic rear end with its thin LED tallights which follow the line of the ducktail spoiler and the bumpers with their extensions will remain the same with the Coupe, as well as the two-seat interior.

Aston Martin didn’t release any technical details just yet but it’s safe to expect that the new Vantage Roadster will use the same AMG-sourced twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 powertrain with the Coupe model. Power is rated at 503 HP, sending the fixed-roof Vantage from 0 to 62mph (100km/h) in 3.7 seconds.

A small weight penalty is expected for the new Vantage Roadster thanks to the addition of the folding roof mechanism and the necessary chassis strengthening measures, which means that performance will be slightly worse than its Coupe sibling.

Aston Martin says that the open-top Vantage will launch globally in spring 2020. Standard models should come fitted with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a rear electronic differential. We still don’t know if the British car maker will offer the new Roadster with the seven-speed manual transmission of the Vantage AMR but if they do, it will most likely be a special edition model.

Not bad, but I cannot get over that front-end. It looks like a Tesla mated with one of Toyota’s ugly new creations, like the new Avalon. Astons are supposed to have a modicum of elegance and that maw gobbled up any elegance this car might have had.

Now it looks a lot like the Jag F-Type. I still hate the front.

    • Ben

Yeah, I can kinda see that.

From the side, the resemblance to the F Type is uncanny. Not a fan of the front or the messiness of the lower rear plastic.

I have yet to see a car that looked good with this frosted nonsense paint/wrap stuff. It also looks low-rent.

  • SteersUright

Cool? Yes. But most certainly not the jaw dropping beauty the old Vantage was.

  • Wich roadster ? AMG GTC, Vantage or F-Type ?
