2020 Mazda CX-8 Unveiled With More Features, New Special Edition

Two years after it was introduced in Japan, the Mazda CX-8 has received a few updates. The latest iteration is already on sale locally and deliveries will commence at the end of next month.

Displayed at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, the three-row SUV is available in different specs, with prices ranging between 2,948,000 and 4,890,600 YEN, equal to $27,153-$45,046 at today’s exchange rates.

Okay, so what’s new? Quite a few things, actually, including the one-touch walk-in switch access to the third row, available second-row heated seats, cup holders and USB ports, captain’s chairs with Nappa leather, black leather trim and USB ports in the third row in some grades.

Contributing to the enhanced experience are the extra damping coating applied to the roof, optional power sunroof in certain trim levels and 8-inch center display (up from 7). The size of the sub-trunk box has increased by 19 liters (0.7 cu-ft) to 84 liters (3 cu-ft), or by 8 liters (0.3 cu-ft) to 56 liters (2 cu-ft) with the Bose premium sound system.

All engine options can now be chosen with either front- or all-wheel drive. The latter are offered with the Off-Road Traction Assist, a system that works with the traction control to improve grip.

Joining the lineup is the new Exclusive Mode special edition model. Sitting at the top of the range, it adds some comfort and convenience features to the second row, such as ventilation and power sliding and reclining, as well as power walk-in switches that fold the seatbacks down and slide the seats forward to improve access to the third row.

Looks like a nice place to be. even in the second row.

    • I am very happy, that the CX-8 will be finally available in Thailand. And we will get this updated version. I currently own a CX-5 Diesel. I am not sure, if I should take the 2.5 l Turbo this time.

I love of look of the new Mazda design, but it has become tiresome with all the lineup looking the same!!

    • The CX-8 is based on the current CX-5 language.
I agree with you, but you cannot expect a (radically) new design every year – especially from a quite small Japanese manufacturer. The new Mazda 3 and CX-30 are the first cars with the new design, Mazda currently tries to perfect the current Kodo design language. The 2012 CX-5 was the first with the Kodo design and I think its has quite evolved and I like the simplified design language (I am a Mazda owner since 2008).
The new MX-30 show the new design language for an EV.
I assume, that the next gen CX-5 (CX-50?) will have a new design, but Kodo.

I see Lincoln MKT in the overall shape (especially picture 18).

  • I DON’T LIKE MAZDA’S NEW BUMPERLESS FRONT ENDS. LEAVES THE GRILLE VULNERABLE TO DAMAGE.

    • I very like this style. The modern safety technology also avoids damage.

      • YES FOR THE PASSENGER, I’M TALKING ABOUT DAMAGE TO THE CAR. LEXUS DOES IT TO, LEAVING THE GRILLE VULNERABLE TO DAMAGE.
