Levorg Pre-Production Prototype Shows Subaru’s Next-Gen Mid-Size Wagon

Subaru’s offering a first glimpse into the second generation Levorg with the production-ready prototype that debuted at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.

Visually, it’s not a drastic departure from its predecessor, but sports a number of new styling elements, like a new front end with more angular styling, bigger grille, different-shaped hood scoop, squared wheel arches, new tailgate design and modern lights at both ends.

Based on the Subaru Global Platform, which is shared with the Ascent and Impreza, among others, the new Levorg promises to deliver a more pleasant driving experience. It packs a new 1.8-liter boxer engine, with turbocharging, direct injection and lean-burn technology that “balances acceleration and environmental performance at a high level”, while also “bringing superior dynamic quality with its strong torque”.

Several advanced safety features will be integrated into the car, like the next-gen EyeSight, which provides a 360-degree view by combining the renewed camera and four radars mounted at the front and back, and expanded range of pre-collision braking that includes crossing and turning at junctions in low visibility.

The new Levorg will also get a high-def map and vehicle locator, which work together to detect vehicle’s position and reduce speed before entering a curve, or recognize the shape of the highway ahead. Furthermore, this tech also supports hands-free driving in congested traffic situations.

In the event of an accident, the Advanced Automatic Collision Notification will automatically send an alert to an operator who will contact the rescue services. Should drivers encounter medical problems, they can get in touch with the operator at the push of a button.

The all-new Levorg will launch in Japan as a 2021MY in the second half of 2020.

It’s actually a compact wagon, not a mid-size. Has more in common with the Impreza than the Legacy.

An obscure reference perhaps… but do you remember on ‘The Simpsons’ when a dentist was trying to scare Lisa into getting braces by showing her what would happen if she didn’t? The front end up this car reminds of that! lol

I’ll never buy any vehicle with a CVT and/or Turbo engine!

Nobody cares what you think you dumb ignorant idiot.

Expect a recall on the cvt! Only then will you understand…

Wow. Looking at the side view, I can see that the front overhang is way too short. They could have added another 12 inches or so.

At least they fixed, the awkward missing trim below the rear side window’s.

    That actually looks pretty sweet!

  • Craig

    That’s it! LOL Thanks!! :o)
