Production of the new Mercedes-AMG A45 and CLA 45 Coupe and Shooting Brake has commenced at Daimler’s Kecskemet plant.
The three powerful compact cars are made exclusively at the Hungarian site, where preparations began last year. The automaker had to train the employees for months on the unique workflow that applies to AMGs and states that these cars retain the Benz top quality.
“The production and installation of the special shape of the bodywork of the models requires a great deal of professionalism, both in the press plant as well as in the body shop”, Mercedes explained. “And in the surface treatment plant, a new, innovative paint system gives opportunity to apply additional, special colors.
The S versions of the new A45 and CLA 45 utilize the highest output possible of the new 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine. They enjoy a jaw-dropping 421 PS (415 hp / 310 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque at the crank and come with the eight-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. The quickest of the bunch is the A45 S, which needs 3.9 seconds to get to 100 km/h (62 mph) and maxes out at 270 km/h (167 mph), while the CLA 45 S is 0.1 seconds slower and has an identical top speed.
Deliveries in the United Kingdom are scheduled to start this winter, with pricing starting from £50,570 ($64,646/€58,504) for the A45 S, £52,145 ($66,659/€60,326) for the CLA 45 S Coupe and £53,570 ($68,481/€61,975) for the CLA 45 S Shooting Brake.
