Skoda has released full details and a comprehensive photo gallery of its newest crossover, the China-only Kamiq GT.

Unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show, the subcompact crossover is the second “coupe-SUV” developed specifically for the Chinese market following the Kodiaq GT. There’s nothing “coupe” about it, though, since it looks very much like a regular SUV. It doesn’t even have frameless windows and the roofline isn’t noticeably more sloping than on the regular Kamiq for China.

Unsurprisingly, the Kamiq GT has an almost identical footprint with the base Kamiq. The width (1,781 mm / 70.1 in) and wheelbase (2,610 mm / 102.7 in) remain unchanged, while the length gains 19 mm (0.75 in) for a total of 4,409-mm (173.6-in).

Mind you, the 1,606 mm (63.2 in) height is a surprise since it makes the Kamiq GT “coupe-SUV” 13 mm (0.5 in) taller than the Kamiq. As some of these official photos can attest, the new Kamiq GT targets “lifestyle-oriented young buyers” who want a car that’s practical, fun to drive, and stylish.

We’re not so sure about the fun to drive part as the Skoda Kamiq GT offers two powertrains with rather low (and very similar) outputs. The entry-level choice is a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter MPI unit shared with the regular Kamiq and rated at 111 PS (110 HP) and 145 Nm (107 lb-ft) of torque. Customers can also opt for a turbocharged 1.2-liter TSI delivering 115 PS (114 HP) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque.

The base engine is linked to a six-speed automatic gearbox while the turbo unit comes with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Both models are front-wheel drive only.

The Skoda Kamiq GT offers two trim levels in China, Ambition and Style. Standard and available features include Climatronic automatic climate control, KESSY keyless vehicle access, 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Baidu CarLife and MirrorLink connectivity, backup camera, and more. Prices start from RMB 125,900, the equivalent of $18,900 at the current exchange rates.
