Lynk & Co 05 Crossover Coupe Looks Rather Familiar In Official Photos

Geely’s Lynk & Co brand has dropped the first official images of its new crossover coupe on social media.

Expected to wear the 05 moniker, the new model will debut in China in the first half of 2020, joining the already available 01 and 02 crossovers, 03 sedan, as well as the upcoming 04 hatchback.

As Lynk & Co has accustomed us so far, the model’s name is not a reference to its size but rather its launch timing – it will be the brand’s fifth model. Technically speaking though, the 05 is the “coupe” version of the 01 SUV.

The three photos released by the Chinese automaker reveal a familiar front end design featuring the brand’s signature grille and headlamps. What interests us more is the side view which reveals a sloping roofline along with an interesting treatment for the C-pillars.

Seen from this angle, the Lynk & Co 05 reminds us of the Polestar 2 EV. At the rear, the crossover coupe adopts horizontal taillights with a brand-specific LED signature as well as an aggressive bumper incorporating two round tailpipes on each side and a diffuser in the middle.

As with the rest of Lynk & Co’s young lineup, the 05 is built on the CMA platform co-developed by Geely and Volvo. At 4,592 mm (181 in), the model is slightly longer than the 01 SUV but has the same 2,734-mm (108-in) wheelbase.

No powertrain details have been released yet but the crossover is expected to get a 180 PS (177 HP) 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine and a 254 PS (251 HP) 2.0-liter turbo-four. AWD and hybrid versions should be available too.

I like what they’re doing. Good job Volvo and Geely.

That’s actually an interesting design. I see some Kia Optima elements in it.

“the Lynk & Co 05 reminds us of the Polestar 2 EV.”
How exactly? Because the proportions are vaguely similar but at a different scale? Hmmm.
For me, it looks familiar because spy shots have been kicking about for at least a year and compliance photos showing the car in full came out months ago.

It’s definitely a decent design though, but probably won’t do much business compared to the 01 it’s based on. There are only so many coupe crossovers you can shoehorn into such a specific market niche, and plenty of its rivals on the Chinese market aren’t setting the sales charts alight…

Isn’t it basically the same size as the Polestar 2? The length is within 10 mm at least.
So: same platform, same size, similar profile. Not strange if people find them similar.

      • Joe

They share a basic platform and wheelbase, similar width, but the 05 is obviously taller. I think the height difference is important in terms of the profile. Either way, I guess at a stretch I could see that argument, but it’s not a leap that I’d have made and I still don’t see them as being visually similar in the same way that, for example, a BMW X4 and Geely Xingyue are visually similar.

are they actually finally selling any cars to customers? if yes, where?

    • KF

In China since 2018, they sold over 100k Lynk @ Co’s in the first year (2019).

Edit: launching in Europe early next year.
