Mercedes-Benz Upgrades V-Class With MBUX Infotainment System

Mercedes-Benz continues the rollout of its MBUX multimedia system across the lineup, with the V-Class being the latest model to get it.

Following its launch in passenger cars like the A-Class, the CLA and the GLC, the intuitive and self-learning MBUX infotainment system now arrives in the luxury passenger van. Facelifted earlier this year, the V-Class now receives an infotainment update that brings it up to speed with Mercedes’ latest developments in multimedia systems.

The MBUX system will be available on the V-Class from December 2019 with a 7-inch or 10.25 inch touchscreen central display and a touchpad on the center console. According to Mercedes-Benz, the highlight of the MBUX interface is its intuitive operating concept, most notably its voice control system.

To activate it, the user has to press a button on the steering wheel or just say “Hey Mercedes.” Then the system can recognize “almost any imaginable sentence concerning the areas of infotainment and vehicle operation,” Mercedes claims.

Furthermore, the system is also capable of learning and can adapt itself to the user and their voice — up to the point it can even understand slang. The MBUX infotainment system also offers so-called prediction features, which enable it to recognize which activity the driver would like to start next.

For example, if the driver regularly calls “Home” while on the way to their home, the telephone number will be suggested on the display when the system detects the vehicle is on its way to that destination. MBUX can save all infotainment and vehicle settings in as many as eight individual profiles.
