Luxury cars are all about the finest materials, latest technology, safety and performance, as well as the utmost refinement.

However, while these things are what make or break an upscale car, luxury is also about the small things. Lincoln seems to be aware of that and is offering the VisioBlade wipers as an optional feature on the 2020 Aviator.

The system is designed to keep windshields clear of dirt and icy buildup by dispensing wiper fluid through integrated nozzles in the blades themselves. To prevent freezing and help defrost the windshield, a unique heating element keeps the blades warm.

According to Lincoln, the blades are designed to improve the distribution of fluid to clean more efficiently and reduce glare. Furthermore, the blades can heat up to 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius), which means the windshield can be defrosted in four minutes, versus 15 minutes using a traditional defroster. The available VisioBlade washer and wiper system improves the distribution of the spray as the wipers move, therefore cleaning the windshield more efficiently.

“It sprays in front of the blade, unlike traditional systems that spray the entire windshield. You’re using up to 50 percent less fluid than a traditional system, and you’re improving both day and night visibility by spraying directly in front of the blade as it travels, not over the entire windshield,” explains Geoffrey Johnson, Lincoln body core engineer.

The heating element integrated into the assembly keeps the wiper blades warm, preventing icy buildup on both on the blades and the windshield. The VisioBlade system is available on the 2020 Lincoln Aviator as part of the Elements Package Plus.
