Rolls-Royce Working On A More British Ghost Than The Outgoing One

With the new Phantom already on the market and their first-ever SUV, the Cullinan, launched and doing very well, Rolls-Royce can now focus its attention on the Ghost which will probably due for 2021.

The baby Rolls is about to get a second generation, and we just got a new batch of spy shots to show you. Spotted on the back of a trailer surrounded by a few BMWs, it has dropped the plastic cladding, which allows us to take a peek at the new lines – well, as much as we can, as the heavy camo is still present.

Nonetheless, the prototype is equipped with what seem to be the production headlights and taillamps, and the imposing grille with vertical slats is not going anywhere either, although it appears to be a bit bigger than before.

Our spy photographers couldn’t get close enough to snap a few pictures of the interior this time, but we do know that luscious leather adorns most touchable surfaces of the luxurious cabin. The technology features will be updated and a digital instrument cluster will be included, along with a bigger screen for the infotainment system and a larger HUD.

As for the ‘more British’ reference made above, that’s due to the new architecture. The outgoing Ghost’s platform is shared with the previous-gen 7-Series, and will be replaced by a new, aluminum one that will also be used by the Wraith and Dawn, and should be compatible with electrification.

A mild-hybrid might be on the cards, as well as a PHEV and probably a battery-electric derivative later on, whereas at first, it should get the 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 from the larger Phantom. It’s thought that the next-gen Ghost will also get all-wheel steering and active roll bars, and perhaps an all-wheel drive system, which could be optional.
