Governments and cell phone companies spend millions of dollars airing ads warning about the dangers of texting and driving, but we’ll save them some cash by directing you to this video noticed by Redditors.
As you can see in the clip, the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu appears drunk as they weave in and out of their lane multiple times.
After playing left lane ping pong for a bit, the driver switches to the center lane and crosses into the far right lane in the process. Unfortunately, this didn’t act as a wake up call as they’re soon seen drifting back into the left lane.

Karma finally catches up to the driver at the 35 second mark as the roadway splits into an exit. They’re clearly distracted once again as they don’t even notice until the last second.
The driver swerves to avoid a road sign, but they over-correct and lose control. As a result, the car spins out onto the grass and then rolls down a small embankment. Despite looking like a drunk, the video suggests the driver was texting. That’s hard to verify from the video, but it’s an entirely plausible explanation.
While everyone knows you shouldn’t text and drive, countless motorists admit to doing it. However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that handheld cellphone use by drivers dropped to 2.9% in 2017. That’s an encouraging development, but the agency also noted 3,166 lives were lost to distracted driving that same year.
Some people might not think texting and driving is that dangerous, but the NHTSA noted: “Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. At 55 mph (88 km/h), that’s like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed.”
