Volkswagen is giving the Mk7.5 Golf R a colorful send-off in Australia with a ‘Final Edition’ version.

Limited to 450 units, the VW Golf R Final Edition will feature several styling and equipment upgrades when it reaches Australian dealerships in May 2020. 150 of those models will be even more exclusive as they’ll get access to three Custom Concept paints colors that were previously unavailable in Australia.

Named Violet Touch, Victory Blue and Viper Green, the colors are among the 40 paint finishes offered in the U.S. through the Spektrum Program in 2018. Each of these paints is hand-applied in a specialized factory shop before the car returns to the assembly line for completion.

Picking one of these custom colors adds just AU$300 (US$206) to the VW Golf R Final Edition’s AU$57,990 (US$39,805) starting price. The remaining 300 Final Edition models will be offered in the already available Pure White, Lapiz Blue and Deep Black colors at no extra cost.

Besides the custom colors, standard equipment for the Golf R Final Edition includes 19-inch black Pretoria alloys, gloss black mirror caps, Carbon Nappa leather seats and an upgraded Dynaudio sound system. The only option Aussie customers will be offered is a panoramic glass sunroof costing AU$1,900 (US$1,305).

Nothing changes from a mechanical standpoint as the Golf R Final Edition packs a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine which makes 286 HP (290 PS / 213 kW) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed DSG transmission and 4Motion AWD system.

According to VW Australia, the Golf R is the country’s most successful compact performance car, with 2,035 sales in 2019 – 333 of which were wagons. The next-generation VW Golf R based on the Mk8 Golf is expected to arrive Down Under sometime in 2021.
