McLaren produced just 10 F1 GTR Longtail models so when one of them comes up for sale, it’s a big deal for fans and serious collectors alike.

This is also the first of the batch, chassis 19R, which was used as the factory development prototype as well as being the first Longtail to ever be converted to road use by Lanzante and Gordon Murray Design.

This stunning machine was first raced at the Suzuka 1000km wearing a Lark livery, and comes with an extensive Japanese race history, according to UK dealer Tom Hartley Jnr.

Unlike the vast majority of the F1 GTR Longtails which remain sealed in collections around the world, this particular example has been out participating in many public events, including the Goodwood Festival of Speed and even visiting Spa a few years back to stretch its legs.

McLaren made some big modifications to the bodywork of the F1 with the Longtail, which ended up being longer by around 25 inches (641 mm) and more than 4 inches (100 mm) wider. In addition to the longer tail section, the front end was also extended to help the F1 produce as much downforce as possible.

Chassis 19R is accompanied by a “huge spares package”, which includes all the parts necessary to convert it back to a full race spec and a special book by Gordon Murray Design with the history of the car and the process of its road-legal conversion.

There aren’t many cars than can beat a McLaren F1 in collector status, but the first GTR Longtail is almost a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the most serious car collector out there. The selling dealer hasn’t announced a price to the public but if we had to take a guess, there’s no way the number would involve anything less than eight figures.
