Mere days after the first Tesla Model Ys started to reach the hands of customers, Throttle House has been fortunate enough to test out the car manufacturer’s latest model.
The Model Y featured in this particular review is the range-topping Performance model that has also been equipped with the available Performance Upgrade Package. There’s also a lovely blue paint scheme, red brake calipers, and weird (or cool, depending on your taste) turbine-style wheels.
In terms of size, this review reveals the Model Y is much taller than the Model 3 and is actually closer in height to the Model X than it is the Model 3. Length-wise, however, the Model Y is much shorter than the Model X. One particularly important differentiating factor between the Model Y and its Model 3 sibling is that it is a hatch, meaning there’s a much larger trunk.

Inside, pretty much everything is the same as the Model 3. Consequently, it is just as minimalist and sports the same 15-inch infotainment system as the sedan. There’s also a lovely glass roof like the Model 3 and the added size of the crossover means it offers more headroom for second-row passengers than the company’s entry-level sedan.
Driving the Tesla Model Y Performance seems to be very similar to the Model 3 Performance, although that shouldn’t be a surprise as they sport the same powertrains. That powertrain, by the way, includes a pair of powerful electric motors driving all four wheels, allowing the Model Y Performance to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.5 seconds and a 145 mph (233 km/h) top speed.
