With impressive power delivered by the world’s most potent 2.0-liter four-pot, the new Mercedes-AMG A45 S is a force to be reckoned with.

The mega hatch king is not only super fast in a straight-line sprint, but between the apexes too, as it recently lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife in under 8 minutes, on Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires. SportAuto’s Christian Gebhardt drove it across the finish line in 7:48.8 which, according to FastestLaps, is 1.2 seconds faster than the Lamborghini Murcielago. Imagine that?

The impressive time puts it ahead of the Porsche 911 Carrera S, BMW M3 CSL E46 and Aston Martin Vantage GT8, all of which posted an identical time of 7:50. Further down, we find the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive, SL 65 AMG Black Series, Jaguar XKR-S and Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV, as well as the first-gen Ford GT, Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and V10-powered BMW M5 E60. The A45 S came 8 tenths of a second behind the BMW M3 GTS and Audi TT RS Coupe, and almost two seconds behind the Porsche 718 Cayman S, 911 GT3 RS (996) and Ferrari 599 GTB.

Unveiled last year as the range-topping model of the new-gen A-Class, the A45 S has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine hooked up to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The 421 PS (415 HP / 310 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque rocket it to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.9 seconds, and up to 270 km/h (168 mph).
