What you’re looking at may look to some like a Dodge Viper but it is, in fact, a modified Chevrolet Corvette dubbed the ‘Saber.’

The custom made car, currently up for sale on eBay with an asking price of $29,950, is a 1976 model meaning it is based around a C3-generation Corvette. The listing claims that just two examples of these Corvette-based Viper lookalikes were ever manufactured as Chrysler allegedly sued the builder (we wonder why?).

Similarities to the Viper are evident. The front, for example, is rounded and sports an enormous hood just like the Dodge. In addition, there is custom bodywork on the sides and across the rear. Among the only parts that give away the vehicle’s true identity at the doors and the shape of the windshield and A-pillars.

Whereas the Dodge Viper made a name for itself thanks to gargantuan engines displacing up to 8.4-liters, this Corvette doesn’t feature such a mill. Instead, it gets an original 5.7-liter SBC V8 engine that the C3 Corvette left the factory with. The eight-cylinder has been restored and looks to be in superb condition with no less than 350 hp on tap. Coupled to the engine is an automatic transmission driving the rear wheels.

A look at the odometer suggests the car has just 6,330 miles (10,187 km) under its belt, a very low figure for a Corvette of this age. However, whereas an unmodified C3 Corvette with this kind of mileage would likely fetch a pretty penny, the ‘Saber’ can be had for cheap. Even priced at $29,950, however, it is unlikely to be sold anytime soon as we’ve discovered it’s been available for over 1 year.
