Facelifted 2021 BMW 5-Series Reveals Itself Again In Leaked Photos

Another image of the refreshed 2021 BMW 5-Series has plopped up on the internet, thanks to a member of the Germancarforum. This time, it appears to be the luxury sedan’s official brochure with a full frontal view and a cropped glimpse of the interior. [Updated 5/1/2021]

If this is indeed to be the facelifted G30 BMW 5-Series, and we believe it is, it matches everything we knew about it from all the latest spy images.

BMW gave the updated 5er a slightly larger kidney grille, sharper headlights and new taillights, which we finally get to see for the very first time. Overall, the nameplate now looks more modern and more in line with the overall design of the latest 3-Series.

The closest we came to peaking underneath the updated G30 5-Series’ camouflage were those renderings we showed you a few weeks back. However, while the artist did get the headlight design and graphics right (mostly), the taillight graphics remained a mystery.

In reality, the 2021 facelifted 5-Series has two hockey stick-shaped Daytime Running Light graphics out front, which unlike the render, feature a break in the light design, almost like two loops at each corner. The grille meanwhile is a little bigger and looks more like a one-piece item than before. As for the hood and front bumper, the former appears unchanged, while the latter was redesigned to fit in with the new headlights.

We’re also showing you the non-facelifted model alongside the updated G30 so you can see for yourself just how extensive (or not) the changes appear to be.

Moving on to the rear end, we can see that the edges of the bumper are more defined, while the lower diffuser part was designed to look more sporty. The overall shape of the taillights is slightly different too, but you definitely need to stare at them for a while in order to see the sharper edges and minor reduction in bulk. The shape of the trunk lid also seems to be mildly different.

As for the taillight graphics, the current G30 5-Series features a traditional dual-level mirrored L-shape as a light signature at the back. It still looks like a hockey stick, but hollow. The updated model however ditches that look and comes with a single level light signature for its taillights, one that actually curls around the edges, making its way back towards the trunk lid.

Thanks to Germancarforum, we now know exactly what BMW is doing with the 2021 5-Series, and if you’re a fan of the current 3-Series, then we can’t imagine you disliking its updated larger sibling.

The question is, did the Bavarian carmaker do enough for the 5er so as to give it any sort of a styling edge over the facelifted Mercedes E-Class or the all-new Audi A6?
