The latest-generation Genesis G80 has arrived and not long after being revealed, at least one example is reportedly being used as a taxi in South Korea.
These images were recently shared online at Bobaedream and show a white G80 in traffic complete with a light on the roof signifying it as a taxi. Given the fact that the G80 is built in Korea, is well-priced and is hugely luxurious, it’s hardly a surprise that it is being put to good use as a taxi – just take a look at Germany and how many Mercedes-Benz taxis are in use.
Adding to its appeal is the fact that it should have Hyundai reliability and in Korea, is likely far cheaper to repair than a luxury car from Germany would be.

Genesis confirmed last month that the 2021 G80 will go on sale in the United States this summer priced from $47,700. While that starting price means the new G80 is $5,100 more than its predecessor, that’s not unreasonable given how much more advanced and luxurious it is than the previous-gen model. A starting price of $47,700 also means it undercuts the Mercedes-Benz E-Class by over $6,000.
U.S. customers will have two engine options to choice from with the G80. The first is a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder pumping out 300 hp and 311 lb-ft (421 Nm) of torque and connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission powering the rear wheels with all-wheel drive being an option for $3,150.
Should customers want a little more grunt and are willing to stretch their budget to at least $59,100, they can option a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with 375 hp and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque.
