Chrysler used the Chicago Auto Show to introduce the 2021 Pacifica which features updated styling and a newly available all-wheel drive system.

However, the company isn’t forcing customers to wait for all-wheel drive as they’ve unveiled the 2020 Pacifica AWD Launch Edition.

Based on the pre-facelifted minivan, the special edition will arrive a few months before the 2021 model and become Chrysler’s first all-wheel drive minivan since 2004.

While we’d probably suggest holding out for the 2021 model, the 2020 Pacifica AWD Launch Edition is designed for “those who just can’t wait.” The special edition is based on the Pacifica Touring L and features the S Appearance package which includes black exterior accents as well as 18-inch alloy wheels with a special Foreshadow finish.

The minivan also has McKinley leather seats, brushed metal “hydro bezels” and an 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system. Buyers will also find heated front seats and an auto dimming rearview mirror.

Power is provided by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 287 hp (214 kW / 291 PS) and 262 lb-ft (355 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system that is capable of sending 100 percent of available engine torque to the rear wheels. The all-wheel drive system is only engaged when needed and this helps to improve fuel efficiency.

The 2020 Pacifica AWD Launch Edition is currently available to order and U.S. pricing starts at $40,240. However, you’ll likely be able to grab one for less as Chrysler is offering “Pacifica Family Pricing” on all 2020 models as well as zero-percent financing for 60 months.

According FCA’s North American Head of Passenger Cars, Tim Kuniskis, “Reaction was overwhelmingly positive when we announced that the new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica will offer AWD capability. We know there is demand for AWD capability along with Stow ‘n Go seating, and the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica AWD Launch Edition allows us to get our customers the all-weather capability they want even sooner.”
