The advanced electrified powertrain of the SF90 Stradale might trick some into thinking that it is the spiritual successor of the LaFerrari, but it is not – and Ferrari has never claimed otherwise.

Think of it as a more advanced F8 Tributo, albeit one that is not afraid of using the front wheels only to move around on zero emissions, pulled by the two electric motors mounted on the front axle. A third electric motor is positioned between the mid-mounted 4.0-liter turbocharged V8, which kicks out 769 HP (780 PS / 574 kW) and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm) of torque, and the 8-speed DCT.

The combined system output of 986 HP (1,000 PS / 735 kW) enables a 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration of 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 211 mph (340 km/h). More importantly, the Italian supercar can be driven in all-electric mode for around 15 miles (25 km), and this alone should be another conversation starter, in addition to the sculpted looks defined by the advanced aerodynamics and a nice-looking interior that isn’t OTT.

Now, we could further dissect the SF90 Stradale, but this what SportAuto did, whose test driver, Christian Gebhardt, was invited to Maranello to experience it first-hand. With the photographer riding shotgun, the experienced driver took it out on the road and spoke about it, before setting it loose at the Fiorano racetrack. Mind you, this wasn’t a timed lap in an attempt to compare the result to other exotics, but one that shows just how fun a properly-balanced 1,000-horsepower machine can be, so head on down to see it in action, and don’t forget to turn the subtitles on.
