Hyundai Design Boss Presents Striking Vision T Concept In Walkaround Video

When Hyundai unveiled the impressive Vision T Concept at the LA Auto Show in November 2019, it caused quite a stir mainly because it serves as inspiration for the next-generation Tucson.

Now, the automaker revisits the study in a new walkaround video in which Head of Hyundai Design SangYup Lee shares new insights on the concept’s exterior. Characterized by sharp angles, a sports stance and angular design, the Vision T looks really special.

It also looks nothing like a Hyundai Tucson, which has always been among the most generic compact crossovers. This will change with the fourth-generation Tucson as spy shots have shown that the production model will borrow heavily from the Vision T Concept.

In this new video, SangYup Lee explains the key characteristics of the concept car’s design, namely the dynamic architecture, sharp edges and straight lines, and geometric design features called “parametric dynamics.” Those include the chiseled surface, a combination of soft surfaces and hard lines, and sharp, geometric edges.

SangYup Lee compares the vehicle’s architecture to a mineral or a crystal which has been struck by a hard object and then shattered. The comparison with nature continues with the air intake flaps which actually move when the vehicle is in motion, with the designer saying the Vision T seems more like a living animal rather than a static machine.

“We really wanted to create Vision T as the most avant-garde, the sportiest, freshest CUV. The most dynamic CUV as a vision that we wanted to introduce,” says SangYup Lee. The Vision T represents one step in the evolution of Sensuous Sportiness, with the Hyundai 45 and Prophecy representing two other directions of Hyundai’s design language.
