Have you ever driven over an old and dilapidated bridge and feared for your life thinking it would collapse? Well, after watching this video, you may think twice about crossing any such bridge in the future.

This clip comes out of India and shows the moment a bridge collapsed in the northern state of Uttarakhand, close to the border with China and in the Lilam Johar Valley. What triggered the collapse? A very heavy truck.

The truck, carrying a heavy excavation machine, can be seen gently driving across the bridge and it initially seems all fine. But, when the truck reached the half-way point in the bridge, the left side dramatically gives way and the entire bridge splits in two with the truck and the excavator slamming to the river below. A man who was walking behind the truck on the bridge also fell into the abyss.

Remarkably, Times Now News reports that the two individuals in the truck survived the dramatic collapse but did suffer serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Even more shocking is the fact that the man who was crossing the bridge on foot came out uninjured.

The exact cause of the bridge collapse isn’t known but it seems apparent the truck and the excavator exceeded the maximum weight it could hold. It is unclear how old the bridge is and if it has sustained damage in the past. However, if you rewind to the very start of the video, it looks as though the bridge has a noticeable bow in the middle, even before the truck drove onto it, suggesting it was only a matter of time before disaster hit.
