The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye offers supercar performance wrapped in a package that starts at $72,295 (MSRP), yet laying down the immense output and torque is tricky, which is why achieving the official specs provided by the FCA-owned brand needs lots of skill.

Ask Dodge what it can do and they will tell you that 3.4 seconds are needed for 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint and 10.8 seconds for the quarter-mile. Moreover, should you find a straight long enough, it will eventually top out at 203 mph (326 km/h).

The Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds in Merritt Island, Florida, is one of the few places on Earth where cars can safely and legally hit their top speed. The runway is 3.22 miles (5.15 km) long and was used by the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye to achieve maximum speed. Mind you, the video was shot last year, probably when it had its half-mile exit speed recorded at 151 mph (243 km/h), but it was only recently uploaded.

The Hellcat Redeye is no longer the top model in the Challenger family, as the new SRT Super Stock, which premiered earlier this week with the same engine, tuned to deliver 807 HP (819 PS / 602 kW), has taken that role.

Still, 797 HP is quite a lot of power, and a 203 mph v-max is not to be sniffed at. So, did it manage to hit that number?
