Dramatic dashcam footage has captured the moment a semi-truck flipped onto a police patrol car in Smyrna, Georgia last week.

The accident happened at 10:10 a.m. last Friday at the intersection of Atlanta Road and Windy Hill Road. Footage shows a Pro Tree Service semi-truck driving through an intersection before it overturns and crushes a Smyrna Police Department patrol car, entrapping the officer inside.

Fox 5 reports that the Smyrna and Cobb County Fire Departments worked together to free the officer from the car. The officer was later identified as Smyrna Officer P. Colburn and he was transported to the nearby Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Photos taken from the scene show that the cab of the semi-truck slammed onto the front of the patrol car while the trailer hit a utility vehicle also waiting at the intersection. The Cobb County Police Department’s Selected Traffic Enforcement Unit will investigate the accident at the request of chief Joseph Bennett. It remains unclear if the driver of the truck was injured in the crash.

It is also unknown why the semi-truck blasted through the intersection the way it did. It might have swerved to avoid the white van driving through the intersection, however the sudden steering input caused the truck to roll over onto its side.
