The hybrid Polestar 1 is an attractive Grand Tourer that promises good performance in a refined package. However, there is more than meets the eye with this car.

Pretty much any model currently on the market is developed and engineered well enough to be enjoyed on a racetrack or a mountain pass and while YouTuber Misha Charoudin was driving the car around the Nurburgring recently, he was left thoroughly impressed with what Polestar has created.

One of the most impressive things about the Polestar 1 is the seamless acceleration that its plug-in hybrid powertrain provides. Packing a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder with two electric motors and a 34 kWh battery, the Swedish (albeit built in China) coupe is good for 619 hp and 738 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. High-performance hybrids like this offer excellent in-gear acceleration and that appears to be just the case here, thanks in no small part to the electric motors and the instant torque they provide.

It is the handling that impresses Charoudin the most. While the Polestar 1 is a very heavy car, tipping the scales at roughly 2,300 kg (5,070 lbs), it is able to hide its weight very well and inspires confidence in the driver. The YouTuber is particularly impressed with the car’s lack of understeer that is virtually eliminated thanks to the torque vectoring system. The utilization of adjustable Ohlins suspension is also a key ingredient in the handling package.
