With the unveiling of the Citigoᵉ iV last year, Skoda’s tiny hatchback range has gone all-electric.

The new model, which is also the Volkswagen Group’s most afforfable battery-electric vehicle, starts at £20,455 ($26,770) in the UK, excluding the £3,000 ($3,926) Government Plug-in Car Grant, undercutting its Seat Mii Electric and VW e-Up! brethren by £2,345 ($3,069) and £3,100 ($4,057) respectively.

The Citigoᵉ iV packs a single electric motor that delivers 82 HP (83 PS / 61 kW) and 156 lb-ft (212 Nm) of torque, allowing a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration of 12.5 seconds and an 81 mph (130 km/h) top speed. Mounted under the floor is a 36.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, which supports fast charging and gives it a 140-170-mile (225-274-km) range in the WLTP cycle.

Unlike other EVs, Skoda’s city car doesn’t scream for attention. In fact, if it wasn’t for the enclosed grille and model-specific badges, you couldn’t tell it apart from the – now retired – ICE models.

The interior is very basic, although because of the boxy styling, it offers decent headroom at the back for adult occupants. The legroom is sufficient for a car in this class, and so is the boot space.

Up front, the design is simple, as drivers only get a few things to play with. The smartphone doubles as a sat-nav system and displays the usual information via a dedicated app.
