All-New 2021 Levorg Officially Unveiled In Japan, Switches To Subaru Global Platform

The second-generation Subaru Levorg wagon has gone official in Japan following the leaked images from May 2021.

As those photos revealed at the time, the 2021 Levorg is an accurate replica of the Levorg Prototype STI that Subaru unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. While the styling is evolutionary compared to the previous-generation model, the 2021 Levorg is completely new under the skin, adopting the Subaru Global Platform that debuted on the latest Impreza.

This means there’s a new engine under the hood, a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder boxer with direct injection that delivers 177 PS (174 HP / 130 kW) at 5,200-5,600 rpm and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque between 1,600 and 3,600 rpm.

2021 Subaru Levorg STI Sport

The standard transmission is a newly developed Lineartronic CVT which Subaru says it features approximately 80 percent new parts. The gearbox features expanded gear ratio range for improved drivability. All-wheel drive is obviously standard on all models. Subaru quotes an average fuel efficiency of 13.7km/L (32.2 mpg US or 7.3 l/100 km) according to the WTLC cycle.

The new platform has enabled Subaru to make the Levorg bigger, with the wagon now measuring 4,755 mm (187.2 in) in length (+65 mm/2.5 in), while the wheelbase increases by 20 mm (0.8 in) to 2,670 mm (105.1 in). This translates into more knee room for rear seat passengers, while the trunk volume expands from 522 liters (18.4 cu ft) to 561 liters (19.8 cu ft).

Another important update for the new Subaru Levorg is the new-generation EyeSight suite of advanced driver assistance systems. Offered standard on all Levorg models in Japan, the safety tech offers 360-degree sensing and is said to offer improved practicality in the real world. In addition, the carmaker offers the EyeSight X suite that adds high-precision 3D map data enabling Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capability.

2021 Subaru Levorg STI Sport

There are three basic grades for the new Levorg in Japan: GT, GT-H, and STI Sport. Each of them is available with the optional EyeSight X, in which case the name of the trim levels changes to GT EX, GT-H EX and STI Sport EX.

For now, not much else is available about the 2021 Levorg, though the photo gallery and videos reveal features like a 12.3-inch digital cockpit, 11.6-inch tablet-style infotainment display, 17-inch or 18-inch alloys, and more. Subaru will release full details about the all-new Levorg, including pricing, on October 15. Japanese customers can pre-order the new Levorg starting August 20, though.
