2021 Nissan Maxima 40th Anniversary Edition Headlines Model Year Changes

Nissan is marking 40 years of the Maxima nameplate in North America with a 40th Anniversary Edition model.

Going on sale this fall in the United States, the 2021 Nissan Maxima 40th Anniversary Edition builds on the fully equipped Maxima Platinum grade, adding enhanced styling inside and out and new features.

On the outside, the 40th Anniversary Edition Maxima brings a unique two-tone Ruby Slate Gray Pearl body color with black roof, exclusive 19-inch gloss black alloys, black exhaust finishers, as well as black nameplates and trim badges, including a 40th Anniversary badge.

Inside, the anniversary Nissan Maxima brings red semi-aniline leather seats with 40th Anniversary embossing, red contrast interior stitching, and Satin Dark Chrome trim on the dashboard and front door panels. Rounding out the upgrades are the white speedometer and tachometer faces reminiscent of past Maxima models, and the standard rear seats.

The powertrain remains the same 3.5-liter V6 making 300 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 261 lb-ft (353 Nm) of torque at 4,400 rpm. The unit is hooked to a standard Xtronic CVT driving the front wheels.

In addition to the 40th Anniversary Edition, the 2021 Maxima will be offered in SV, SR, and Platinum grades. This means the 2020 Maxima S, SL, and Platinum Reserve trim levels will not be renewed. Nissan will release more information on the full 2021 Maxima lineup, including pricing and specifications, closer to its fall 2020 on-sale date.

The Maxima is Nissan’s longest continuous running nameplate in the U.S., dating back to 1981 when the first-generation model arrived Stateside. Over four decades and eight generations, Maxima has acquired a large owner base, which is among the most loyal among all Nissan models.
