The 2021 Maserati MC20 has leaked online shortly before its online premiere. As we had long expected, it is a Maserati unlike any other.

The exterior design of the MC20 is very different than other models currently being produced by the Italian manufacturer. Up front, the car has relatively soft and simple lines and includes a small front grille and sharp air intakes. Elsewhere, the mid-engined car has butterfly doors while the rear includes thin LED taillights that somewhat remind us of those used by the Pininfarina Battista hypercar.

Images published online also show the MC20’s interior. The Maserati sports a set of bucket seats clad in black and blue leather while also featuring a carbon fiber transmission tunnel and buttons to select Reverse, Drive, and Manual. There is also a large rotary dial to changing between the various other driving modes. Other key parts of the cabin include a fully digital instrument cluster and a large touchscreen infotainment system.

As intriguing as the interior and exterior designs are, it is the powertrain that makes the new Maserati special. This engine is dubbed the ‘Nettuno’ and is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 unit that includes an advanced twin-spark-plug pre-chamber combustion system and pumps out 621 hp at 7,500 rpm and 538 lb-ft (730 Nm) of torque between 3,000 and 5,500 rpm. Mated to this engine is a Getrag eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that’s expected to drive the rear wheels.

Future variants of the MC20 could include a hybrid model as well as an all-electric model.

Stay tuned to CarScoops for more information about the MC20 when it officially premieres tomorrow.
