Chevrolet Tahoe Destroyed By Train After Skipping Boom Gates

Driving across a train line while the gates are down is one of the dumbest things someone can do and yet, it continues to happen.

This particular video comes from Centralia in Illinois and shows the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe driving directly into the path of an oncoming train and getting hit.

The YouTuber who recorded and uploaded the footage was at the tracks filming a pair of Canadian National trains. A large one passed through the crossing heading southbound, but the gates remained down as a northbound train was also approaching. The driver of the Tahoe failed to notice it.

According to the YouTuber, the impatient driver turned up their speakers as the southbound train passed through and didn’t take any notice of the northbound one. He then proceeded to drive around the gates and was struck by the train. If you pause the video as soon as the Tahoe enters the frame, you’ll notice that the driver did see the train at the last second, but rather than hitting the brakes, continued to accelerate through the crossing and tried to swerve out of its way. Needless to say, it didn’t end well.

The train smashed into the rear half of the Tahoe, immediately breaking the windows and causing serious damage. Footage taken after the crash shows that the Chevy was totally destroyed in the impact but, fortunately, the driver survived.
