Mitsubishi has updated the Outlander PHEV for the 2021 model year in Australia.

As with previous model years, the 2021 Outlander PHEV is powered by a 2.4-liter petrol engine and front and rear-mounted electric motors. The SUV’s ICE engine is good for 126 hp (94 kW) and 146 lb-ft (199 Nm) of torque while the front and rear electric motors deliver 80 hp (60 kW) and 93 hp (70 kW) respectively. Power is sent to the tarmac through the Mitsubishi’s Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system.

A key update made to the local Outlander PHEV range is that the GSR trim level comes standard with premium Bilstein suspension that promises to improve steering balance, stability and ride comfort. The GSR also includes increased front and rear spring rates alongside ball-bearing front strut upper insulator assemblies.

Other components that distinguish the Outlander PHEV GSR from other variants are black painted front and rear skid plates, door mirrors and roof, as well as a black chrome-plated front grille, air intakes and tailgate garnish. There are also 18-inch black two-tone alloy wheels and some distinct interior features, including new black accents and an eight-speaker premium audio system. The range also includes the entry-level Outlander PHEV ES and the flagship Exceed.

According to Mitsubishi, it takes roughly seven hours to recharge the SUV’s 13.8 kWh battery pack through a Type 1 plug, three hours on a Type 2 plug, and as little as 25 minutes via a DC fast charger. The SUV also has a Vehicle-to-Home function, which means it can deploy electricity in a home or into the grid.

Drive away pricing for the 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV ES starts at AU$51,990 (US$37,328) and increases to AU$56,490 (US$40,559) for the GSR and AU$60,990 (US$43,790) for the Exceed trim levels.
