A wild twin-turbocharged Audi R8 recently set a new quarter-mile record for the German supercar, needing just 7.695 seconds to cover 1,320 feet.

This Audi R8 is the very first to dip into the 7-second range and comes from Underground Racing, a company with a wealth of experience creating insane twin-turbo Lamborghinis, among other cars. In addition to running the quarter-mile in 7.695 seconds, it had a remarkable trap speed of 196.76 mph (316.7 km/h).

During the record-setting run, the car was fitted with beefy drag radial tires to improve its traction. The car launches with such remarkable ferocity that it actually pops a wheelie off the line. Not only is it significantly quicker than a standard Audi R8 but it is also significantly quicker than any electric hypercar currently in the works.

Underground Racing says this R8 features its X Version upgrade that means it can produce as much as 3,000 hp at the wheels when running on race fuel. The German supercar also includes a thoroughly upgraded dual-clutch transmission that includes billet gears, billet input and output shafts, billet final drive gears, and a billet AWD shaft. It is also running a sophisticated JRR M1 MoTec standalone engine management system and a multi-plate wet clutch in a billet clutch cage.

The tuning specialist adds that this R8 hasn’t had any of its weight removed meaning that if it were to go on a diet, it would be even quicker.
