With only two days left until Ford’s unveiling of the E-Transit on November 12, the company has announced the all-electric van will be built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant.
The move is part of a more than $3.2 billion investment in Ford’s North American manufacturing facilities to produce a series of new electric vehicles for commercial and retail customers.
Ford is investing $100 million in its Kansas City plant and adding approximately 150 full-time permanent jobs to build the E-Transit, the zero-emissions version of America’s best-selling commercial van. The investment is in addition to the $300 million Ford invested for this year’s launch of the all-new F-150 at the plant. The facility employs approximately 7,500 workers.

The new E-Transit will be part of Ford’s new wave of EVs in North America, alongside the all-electric F-150 pickup truck announced in September and the all-electric Mustang Mach-E, which starts arriving in U.S. dealerships next month. The E-Transit will reach dealers in late 2021, while the all-electric F-150, which will be assembled at the new Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan, will follow in mid-2022.
Additionally, Ford is investing approximately $150 million in the Van Dyke Transmission Plant in Southeast Michigan to build e-motors and e-transaxles starting from 2021.This will retain 225 jobs at the plant.
“We’re taking our most iconic vehicles and using fully electric technology to deliver even more performance, productivity and capability for customers,” said Kumar Galhotra, president, Americas and International Markets Group. “We are building out the North American manufacturing footprint to support this growth. This is just the first chapter with more new electric vehicles and more investment to come.”
Ford will unveil the all-electric E-Transit on Thursday as part of a more than $11.5 billion global investment in electrification through 2022.
