Over 1.5 Million Toyota And Lexus Vehicles Recalled Over Defective Fuel Pumps

Toyota has announced a recall expansion, due to potentially faulty fuel pumps, for more than 1.5 million cars.

According to the documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defective part, which was supplied by Denso, could lead to engine stalling, which would inevitably increase the risk of a crash.

As for the vehicles involved in this safety campaign, the list is very long, so let’s take a deep breath and go through them: 2018-2019 4Runner, 2019-2020 Avalon, 2019 Corolla Hatchback, 2017-2019 Highlander, 2018-2020 Camry, 2020 Corolla, 2018-2019 Land Cruiser, 2017-2020 Tacoma, 2019-2020 RAV4, 2019-2020 Sequoia, 2017-2020 Sienna and 2019-2020 Tundra.

Quite a few Lexus cars are also included: the 2018-2020 ES350, 2017 GS200t, 2017-2019 GS350, 2019 GS300, 2018-2020 LC500h, 2019-2020 LS500, 2018-2019 GX460, 2017 IS200t, 2019 IS300, 2019 IS350, 2018-2020 LC500, 2018 LS500, 2019 LS500h, 2018-2019 LX570, 2017 RC200t, 2019 RC300, RC350, 2017 and 2019-2020 RX350, 2018-2020 RX350L, 2019 UX200 and 2018-2019 NX300.

The Japanese automaker will notify owners of the defect prior to December 23, as that is when the recall is expected to begin. Subsequently to informing them, they will be advised to schedule an appointment with an authorized dealer, who will replace the fuel pump assembly with an improved one. The fix will be carried out free of charge.

It is also worth noting that there is no word about a possible reimbursement plan in the papers made public by the NHTSA, but considering that all vehicles included in this safety campaign are relatively new, they should be covered by the warranty.
