BMW has been testing the 2021 M4 Convertible with minimal camouflage, but now we’re getting a look at the production model thanks to patent photos posted by the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
Noticed by a member of the i4talk forum, the images reveal the convertible will follow in the footsteps of the coupe and adopt a controversial buck tooth grille with horizontal bars. Designers also gave the drop top a sporty front bumper, a sculpted hood and familiar headlights.
While the front end carries over from the M4 Coupe, changes are plentiful after the A-pillar. Besides the retractable soft top, the model features an upward sweeping beltline which wraps around the car.

Elsewhere, the convertible has a unique trunk with a third brake light that is integrated into the spoiler. Other than that, the model is largely similar to the coupe as there are slender taillights, a four-tailpipe exhaust system and a prominent diffuser.
Power will be provided by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that has outputs of 473 hp (352 kW / 480 PS) and 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS). The coupe is offered with manual and automatic transmissions as well as rear- and all-wheel drive, and those configurations will presumably carryover to the convertible.
While we’ll find out full details when the M4 Convertible is introduced next year, the standard model should be slightly slower than the M4 Coupe which can run from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.1 seconds.
